Walks Information

Transport

Travel to the start of a walk is usually by private car. Members are encouraged to share cars to save petrol and ease parking problems. It is usually possible to arrange lifts from the meeting place for those without cars. It is customary to share petrol costs. Our current suggested rate is 40p per mile to be divided between the occupants.

Lunch Arrangements

On grade A, B or C+ walks, walkers should bring a packed lunch and sufficient liquid refreshment, especially in hot weather. It is sometimes possible to call at a pub, but this is not guaranteed.

Clothing

Walking boots are recommended. Always be prepared for bad weather, especially in the hills.

Membership

Walks are arranged for members of the Ramblers. Interested persons are very welcome to join the group as visitors for up to three walks, after which they are expected to join the Ramblers. Information and an on-line application form can be accessed by clicking the Join Us link in the top panel of this page. Social events and Group Weekends are normally limited to members and family only.

Dogs

It is regretted that only Registered Assistance Dogs are permitted on group walks, due to problems with stiles, farm livestock and other dogs. If you wish to bring an assistance dog, please contact the walk leader beforehand to check for any difficulties with the route.

Map Library

Maps and books of walks are available for members’ use from ??????????????????. Please return promptly after use.

Safety

Whilst every care is taken by walk leaders, persons joining walks are reminded that they are responsible for their own safety at all times. Walkers should each carry a personal First Aid Kit. Please take special care if it is necessary to cross or walk along a road. For reasons of safety, we recommend a minimum of three persons for a walk to take place.

The Ramblers have issued guidance notes for Treating Injuries and Action at an Incident. You can download a copy of these notes here.

Group Walking Cautions

When walking with the Group, please make sure that those who are behind you are still following and have seen where you went at corners or path junctions, particularly in woods or villages. If you need to stop you must inform another walker.
